Alvaro Morata will fly to England on Monday after agreeing Man United deal

MANCHESTER UNITED have agreed a £64million fee for Alvaro Morata, who will travel to England for a medical on Monday, according to reports in Spain.

The Real Madrid striker had been tipped for a move to Old Trafford since any deal to sign Antoine Griezmann became unlikely following Fifa’s decision to uphold Atletico Madrid’s transfer fan.

A move was made even more likely when United confirmed current No.9, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, would be leaving the club this summer.

And radio station Onda Cero report that, on the back of the Swede’s release, the Red Devils moved a step closer to signing a replacement by agreeing a fee for Morata.

The 24-year-old will travel to Manchester on Monday to finalise the move.
Morata was handed his professional debut by current United boss, Jose Mourinho, at Real Madrid in December 2010 for a La Liga victory over Real Zaragoza.

And, a month later, senior team-mate, Gonzalo Higuain, was forced to undergo surgery for a slipped disc and would face four months on the sidelines.

An 18-year-old Morata was tipped to be the Argentine’s replacement in the main squad.

However, Mourinho insisted he need to continue his development in the second string and brought in Emmanuel Adebayor on loan.

He made 15 appearances in all in the Special One’s final season at the Bernabeu, before becoming a regular under Carlo Ancelotti in the 2013-14 campaign — and even played in the Champions League final victory over Atletico.

Morata moved to Juventus that summer and won two Serie A and Coppa Italia doubles — netting the only goal in the 2016 final success of AC Milan — in two years before Real Madrid exercised their £26m buy-back clause.

He was the reigning European champions’ only major summer addition, but played as largely second-fiddle to Karim Benzema under Zinedine Zidane.
